Mechanisms for subsidies for cooking oil are in the final stages of discussion, to be tabled in a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday (today). It is likely that the government will announce these subsidies for 2kg or 5kg bottled cooking oil as early as next week.

Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali noted that this Cabinet meeting will include discussions between three relevant ministries, including the Industries and Commodities Ministry, the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry, and the Finance Ministry.

The main reason for such discussions is to ensure that the public has access to low-priced cooking oil while safeguarding the interests of crude palm oil suppliers.
