We now have a specific goal to end this fight with the coronavirus.

Health Director-General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a press conference that Malaysia will only declare itself free from the Covid-19 pandemic once we have registered zero new cases for 28 days straight.

He explained the reasoning for the 28 days benchmark.

Before announcing the end of a Covid-19 cluster, we monitor it for 28 days because that is two cycles of incubation. So by using the same method, if we have achieved zero cases for 28 days, then we will announce ourselves free of Covid-19

Yesterday, 11 June, saw 31 new cases but with zero deaths. 11 of the new cases were imported cases involving returning Malaysians who were infected overseas.

In the meantime, constant vigilance should still be practiced during the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO), such as appropriate social distancing, increased hand-washing, and no-contact deliveries.
