Samsung launched two watches in London this week — one for serious athletes, one for everyone else — and both are quietly making the case that your next doctor’s appointment might come from your wrist.
- The Galaxy Watch Ultra2, priced at RM3,399, is a serious health and adventure device built for divers, trail runners, and fitness enthusiasts.
- The Galaxy Watch9 starts at RM1,499, targeting everyday users with AI-powered health tracking and habit-building features without the rugged premium price.

Samsung did not come to London to sell you a watch.
It came to sell you a health companion, a dive computer, a trail-running coach, a cardiovascular monitor, and a sleep analyst — all strapped to your wrist, all powered by AI, all available for pre-order.
The Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9 landed at Samsung’s Unpacked event on Wednesday (22 July), riding the same wave as the Z Fold8 series.
The watches are the quieter half of the launch.
They should not be.
Thinner, Brighter, Bigger Battery; Pick Three
The Ultra2 is the headline act at RM3,399.
It is Samsung’s most powerful Galaxy Watch ever — and Samsung is not shy about saying so. An 800 mAh battery, 35% larger than its predecessor.
A 5,000-nit display, the brightest the company has ever put on a smartwatch.
A titanium casing that is somehow 12% thinner than the last Ultra despite carrying all that extra battery.
The Snapdragon Wear Elite platform – the first smartwatch and wearable chip with a built-in brain (a dedicated AI engine) that runs smart – running underneath it all.
Not Waterproof But Dive-Ready, There Is a Difference
Then there is the diving.
Samsung partnered with Mares — the world’s leading diving equipment brand, not a name you drop casually — to build a dive-ready watch rated IP69K, 10 ATM and EN13319 certified.
The moment you enter the water, it tracks depth, time and water temperature automatically.
A dedicated Ultra2 Diving app, developed with Mares, is coming later this year with ascent and descent speed tracking and built-in safe dive limits.
This is not a watch for people who occasionally swim laps.
Built for the Trail, The HOKA Shoes Are a Hint
The trail running credentials are just as serious.
The Ultra2 tracks elevation, climbing progress and terrain impact in real time.
A new Nutrition Alert feature estimates sweat loss relative to body weight and tells you when and how much to drink.
Samsung is not just tracking your run; it is coaching it.
To make the positioning unmistakable, Samsung is throwing in a pair of HOKA Clifton Pro shoes — worth RM729 — as an early-bird gift.
Nobody gives away HOKA shoes to sell a fashion accessory.
That is a message to Garmin and Suunto users: we are in your lane now.
The Watch for Everyone Else
The Galaxy Watch9 starts at RM1,499.
It is lighter, softer and built for the person who wants to build healthier habits without training for an Ironman.
It has an aluminium casing, a 3,000-nit display, a 390 mAh battery, and the same Snapdragon Wear Elite platform.
Four SKUs spanning RM1,499 to RM1,899, covering 40mm and 44mm, Bluetooth and LTE.
The entry price is not an accident.
It sits just below the Apple Watch SE’s conversation without Samsung ever having to mention Apple’s name.
The Health Pitch
Both watches run Samsung’s AI-powered health suite — and this is where the real ambition lives.
Heart Health Score, Daily Cardio Load, Fitness Index; vitals monitoring that tracks your personal health baseline during sleep and alerts you to significant deviations.
Hearing protection that monitors noise levels and files detailed reports.
Samsung says all of this is built on years of clinical research with world-renowned universities and medical institutions.
The company is careful not to call it a medical device. It is equally careful to make you feel like it might be.
TM Roh, Chief Executive Officer of Samsung Electronics’ Device eXperience Division, framed it simply: “the shift from reactive treatment to proactive care.”
That is not a smartwatch pitch; that is a healthcare pitch.
What It Will Actually Cost You
The RM3,399 sticker on the Ultra2 is the starting point, not the finish line.
Stack the Adventure Pack — PeakForm Band (RM399), 25W Power Adapter (RM89), 10,000mAh Battery Pack (RM159), Performance Running Armband (RM89) — and you are looking at RM736 in bundled gifts before the HOKA shoes arrive.
Samsung Rewards Points and loyalty discounts can shave off up to RM1,219 for existing members.
A 10% PWP discount applies when purchased alongside a Galaxy Z or S Series device.
In other words: the more Samsung you already own, the cheaper this gets.
That is not a promotion.
That is an ecosystem lock-in strategy wearing a very comfortable band.
