The Earbuds That Work Better If You Already Own The Right Phone
Samsung’s latest earbuds sound great and do a lot, but most of the premium features only work with a Samsung phone — something Apple and Google also do with their own devices, though how clearly that’s communicated to buyers varies across brands.
A new pair of wireless earbuds has been drawing attention for its audio quality and smart features.
But there is a detail buried in the fine print that most buyers only discover after purchase: the full experience depends heavily on which phone is already in your pocket.
Connect the same earbuds to an iPhone, a non-Samsung Android device, or a laptop, and the list shrinks considerably.
Basic playback and volume control remain.
Noise cancellation stays on.
But the features Samsung has built its marketing around — the ones that justify the premium price — quietly disappear.
This is not unique to Samsung.
Apple does the same with AirPods, reserving its best features for iPhone users, and Google does it with Pixel Buds.
The difference is that buyers of those products often already know which ecosystem they are in.

Same Earbuds, Different Product, Depending On Your Phone
With the Galaxy Buds 4 series entering a crowded market at a premium price, the ecosystem question becomes harder to ignore.
A buyer comparing these earbuds against, say, Bose’s QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds — widely regarded as the benchmark for cross-platform Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) performance — which offer their full feature set regardless of which phone you own — may find the Samsung option less compelling than the headline specifications suggest.
Some who reviewed both models put it plainly: for Galaxy phone owners, these are among the best earbuds available.
For everyone else, there are worthy alternatives at a similar price point.
The earbuds have not changed.
The phone in your hand determines which product you actually get.
