New Burger Joint In Town – Say Hi To NY’s Black Tap Craft Burgers & Shakes In Sunway City

Black Tap is known for their big juicy burgers and crazy shakes with extravagant toppings.

With Five Guys already in Malaysia and Shake Shack coming this year, we now have a wide variety of artisan burgers to choose from.

To add another to the list, American burger chain – Black Tap Craft Burgers & Shakes – is opening here soon. This New York-based restaurant will open its first store in Malaysia at Sunway City in Kuala Lumpur on March 17.

The restaurant in Sunway City is decorated with art-covered walls and is accompanied by hip-hop and pop music of the 80s and 90s, to provide a similar atmosphere to a traditional American luncheonette in New York.

Malaysian street artist Kenji Chai whose works have decorated the walls of places throughout the country, including Malaysia’s tallest mural, has decorated the interiors of the restaurant.

The restaurant has 165 seats, including patio seats outside and a mezzanine level with its own dedicated bar for private groups of 50 people.

Famed cheeseburgers & flamboyant milkshakes

Black Tap is known for its large cheesy burgers and milkshakes that come with over-the-top toppings.

Their milkshakes are called Crazy Shakes (for a reason) as they’re topped with flamboyant desserts such as a slice of cake, a whole muffin or a whole cookie with tons of whipped cream.

Here are some of the Crazy Shake menu:

Cookie Shake – vanilla cookie shake with a vanilla frosted rim with cookie crumbles topped with a ‘cookiewich’, crumbled cookies, chocolate chips, whipped cream & chocolate drizzle
Sweet ‘N Salty – a peanut butter shake which is stacked with a sugar daddy, pretzel rods, chocolate covered pretzel, whipped cream, and caramel & chocolate drizzle,
Cotton Candy shake – a riot of colour with cotton candy, blue & pink rock candy, a pink & white whirly pop, and crowned with cotton candy!

These will surely give you diabetes just by looking at them.

They also feature burgers, sandwiches and salads. Some of the recommended burgers are the Texan Burger, the Crispy Chicken Sandwich or the Greg Norman Burger of wagyu beef topped with house buttermilk-dill, blue cheese and arugula served on a soft potato bun.

Besides the standard menu, Black Tap also provides a variety of plant-based dishes, including the Black Bean Vegan Burger, Vegan Black Bean Salad, and Vegan Black ‘N White CakeShake, to follow the latest vegan food trend.

Black Tap was originally opened by husband and wife, Chris Barish and Julie Mulligan back in 2015 in New York City. Since then, it has opened in various locations in the US and abroad too such as Bahrain, Singapore, Switzerland and the UAE.

Malaysia was a natural next destination for us within the region and the rich food culture is inspiring.
