KFC is introducing their new limited-time menu, the Spicy Smoky Crunch which is a rendition of their Hot & Spicy flavour but with some Portuguese smokiness.

They’re also presenting their new KFC Banana Chocolate Ball, a glutinous skin coated with breadcrumbs and filled with sweet banana and chocolate filling.

It sounds super tempting, so I decided to try them out at my nearest KFC.

The Taste Test

The colour of the chicken parts is a bit darker and vibrantly red. It even left red oily stains on my fingers when I touched it.

The first bite was actually kinda great. You can actually feel the smokiness and paprika flavour to it. It’s peppery, tangy and crunchy at the same time.

The colour looks a little intimidating.

I can feel the heat at the back of my tongue afterwards, but it wasn’t a bad taste, it’s a taste to keep me going.

As for the Banana Chocolate Balls, I can immediately taste the sweetness of the banana after one bite.

However, I think they just put in the banana flavouring to enhance the taste. I can even smell the banana before even biting them.

The chocolate filling is not that oozy but it goes quite well with the banana flavour. Although a bit oily, this dessert is gooey on the inside and crunchy on the outside. It’s like the Pisang Goreng Cheese with chocolate sauce (minus the cheese).

The Verdict

Overall, I actually recommend getting the Spicy Smoky Crunch. It’s not that spicy, it’s a spiciness that you can tolerate well (more like the BBQ or Hot & Spicy flavours of potato chips). I give it an 8/10.

Meanwhile, for the Banana Chocolate Balls, the smell enough is very tempting but I think I wouldn’t buy them again. It’s a good dessert if you just wanna give it a try. I’d give it a 5/10. But different people, different taste palettes, right?

Go and have a taste of your own at all KFC stores nationwide before the limited-time menu disappears.

The price of the Spicy Smoky Crunch starts from RM17.49 and comes in the following options: (1) 2-pcs Combo, (2) 3-pcs Combo, and (3) Box Meal. Meanwhile, you can get a 5-pcs Banana Chocolate Ball (RM7.99) à la carte or in a 6-pcs, 10-pcs, or 12-pcs Wow Bucket Combo.
