If you’ve never tried apple strudels, you’re missing out in life! These delicious desserts consist of diced apples and custard cream sandwiched between two flaky puff pastry layers.
Although it is famous in Klang, the recipe originated from Perth, Australia. Well, now you don’t have to drive too far to your hands on one – Strudel Bakery House just opened a new outlet right in Damansara Utama, right across from Starling Mall!
This is their fifth outlet so far, with others in Klang, Genting Sky Avenue, Setia Alam, and Sri Petaling.
The New Outlet
Okay, so the outlet is actually just a tiny counter space in front of a mobile accessories store. This isn’t a proper shop where you can sit down and dine-in. It’s meant for you to buy the desserts for take-away.
However, this is still pretty exciting as you no longer need to drive all the way to Klang for apple strudels!
Its location is pretty convenient as you can walk to it directly from Starling Mall. From the mall, cut through the carpark and follow the signage out to the street level. Strudel Bakery House is right across the street from the entrance.
The Taste Test
Although this Strudel Bakery House outlet is small, it has the full menu including 5 flavours of strudels, 6 flavours of cream horns, and even butter cookies.
The good thing is that they also have half-sizes for smaller appetites (or if you have a craving for strudel on your own). Standard strudels come in a long box and is more suitable for groups of 4 or more.
Strudels are best eaten as soon as possible for maximum flakiness and can get soggy if left out for too long, so having extra portions left over are kind of a waste.
The fruits used are very fresh and sweet, with generous portions of fruit, custard, and cream in each strudel.
The flaky pastry layers are so delicate it can be cut open with just a fork, with a delicious crackly texture. The pastry is gently sweet with a refreshing fruity flavour.
The cream horns have more structural integrity, with a pastry crust that’s less flaky. But it’s still wonderfully crumbly with a generous amount of filling. Each flavour has a distinct fruity taste, with the passionfruit being surprisingly outstanding.
Regardless of whether you have a giant sweet tooth or prefer something light, these flaky pastries would certainly make for a great afternoon dessert!
