Jujube Vegetarian House comes highly recommended by vegetarians, so I decided to give it a shot. With four outlets around Klang Valley, it wasn’t too hard to find one near me.
The Subang outlet is vibrant and clean, with a bright (and very green) sort of interior design. They even took over the walkway with a carpet of artificial grass and 2-3 tables for extra outdoor seating! It usually gets really crowded during dinner, so the extra tables do help.

Jujube’s menu is quite extensive, from noodles to rice and more. In fact, you will be forgiven for not realizing that this place is vegetarian, as its menu features mostly Chinese dishes such as bak kut teh, fish head bee hoon soup, sweet & sour pork rice, and more.
Rest assured, however, that all the “meat” used are mock meats, and lacto-vegetarians or vegans even have the option to ask for no eggs in any of the dishes.

The Taste Test
We tried their highly recommended bak kut teh and a new menu item, special butter fish with rice.
The bak kut teh came in a claypot, filled with plenty of ingredients such as enokki, wood ear, and lions mane mushrooms, tofu puffs and skin, mock meat pieces, and yau mak.

The herbal soup is packed with flavour, and salty enough to go great with rice. With the generous portion of vegetables and protein, it really does feel like a balanced meal.
The new special butter fish features a fragrant buttery sauce with lots of curry leaves and pieces of mock fish that are surprisingly firm and with a crispy seaweed skin.

Of course, the soul of the dish stems from the butter sauce, which is thick, rich, and leaves you wanting more.
The Verdict
Jujube Vegetarian House serves flavourful dishes in big portions, with enough ‘meaty’ ingredients like mushrooms and firm mock meat to make the meal satisfying.

It is popular with vegetarians, but even non-vegetarians will enjoy the great flavours and filling portions.
Other notable signatures include pan mee in soup and with dry chili (made with vegetarian anchovies and mock minced meat), and vegetarian nasi lemak with a great curry.
