Beefy, noodle-y, savoury goodness in a bowl! (Although sadly we can’t confirm if it’s halal.)
There’s nothing more comforting than a piping hot bowl of beef noodle soup. And there’s nowhere better to get your fill of delicious beef noodle soup than at a humble hawker stall in Petaling Jaya.
Albert Thum Famous Beef Noodle has been operating in O&S Restaurant, Taman Paramount, since 2006. While Albert Thum himself sadly passed away shortly after setting up his stall, his wife took up the reigns and diligently cooks their special family recipe beef noodles daily.
The recipe has been adapted from Albert Thum’s sister-in-law from Thailand, who brought it over when the family was still in Ipoh. Later, Albert and his wife adapted that recipe for their beef noodle stall. The result is a rich dark beef broth which is aromatic and savoury yet light, without the strong smells commonly associated with cheaper cuts of beef.
The heavy taste of meat is cut with the taste of fresh herbs such as coriander and spring onion. A heavy dash of ground white pepper adds a bit of spice to the hot soup.
Yet perhaps the star of the show is the extremely tender cuts of beef that melts in your mouth. Mrs Thum is not one to skimp on toppings: you get thick, full cuts of beef, beef tripe, beef balls, and soft turnips.
Everything is fresh and done expertly, even the tripe, which is soft and chewy without the usual odour of offal.
At its base is a very generous portion of delicious noodles, springy and full of beefy flavours. Even a medium bowl will be enough to satisfy hungry patrons, but go for the large if you truly feel like eating for two.
Of course, O&S Restaurant also have loads of other delicious food stalls, from favourites such as prawn mee to yong tau foo. While parking can also be a little difficult, the food is worth it to park a little further and walk to.
