Parents, don’t make the same careless mistake that we did, especially when it comes to food and baby products.
Always check online purchases when they arrive and if they are in a questionable condition, return them immediately to the seller
My wife and I are first-time parents and we didn’t check the packaging which is why for a few days our 6 month old baby drank formula that was infested with tiny beetles.
As soon as we discovered the issue, we informed my mother (who had bought it for us online), who contacted the online shopping platform, who informed the seller, who called my mother back, all within an hour.
As the seller showed genuine concern, was cooperative and prompt, we will be withholding their identity at this time.
A representative for Mead Johnson Nutrition (MJN) Malaysia has also been in contact with us to collect the product in order to start an investigation.
“The health and safety of children is our number one priority, and therefore we take that responsibility very seriously,” read the letter from MJN Malaysia Consumer Care Specialist Team Lead Vasudewan Suppayah.
“We are committed to ensure all our products, including Enfalac A+ fully meet the highest safety and robust quality standards and strictly comply with all relevant regulations.”
It should also be noted that in 2017, MJN Malaysia’s Enfalac A+ Step 1 Infant Formula became the target of counterfeiters. Back then, MJN took action by initiating a voluntary Product Replacement Programme, replacing any 1.8kg box that was brought to them.
While the process to find out what happened in this case may take a while, the reason we’re publishing this is because in the meantime other parents might be carelessly feeding their baby with infested formula.
So please, check the packaging and if you have any doubts, do what we did and use a sieve to check if you think there might be bugs in the formula.
And if you’re wondering, our baby appears so far to be fine and we’re still using the same brand formula, from a fresh packet which we very very carefully examined for any defects.
