Italian dining is all about authentic recipes, traditional ingredients, and family moments, according to Roberto Guiati, Chief Executive of PETRA Cucina which opened their flagship Italian restaurant serving high-end casual Tuscan cuisine, Roberto’s 1020 Osteria.
A majority of Roberto’s is imported from Italy- from the flour, the cold cuts of meat, and the cheese selection to the olive oil and wine.
In fact, they imported a whole pizza oven from Italy, the Alfa Forni wood-and-gas fired pizza oven, to make sure their pizzas are as authentic as possible.
Are the pizzas worth it?
Pizzas take the center-stage of Roberto’s menu, featuring plenty of traditional and classic pizza combinations. Christmas pizzas are available until the end of the year, though Roberto notes that any kind of pizza can be made upon request.
The pizzas have a thin, crisp base with a mild sweetness to truly let the simplicity and fresh flavours of its ingredients shine. Whether it’s a simple pizza sauce and cheese pizza or topped with cold cut meats and olives, the grasp of flavours are immensely satisfying and warm.
They made me wish I had an Italian grandmother. Unfortunately for me, I do not have any Italian relations, so i’ll have to make do at Roberto’s.
A meal shared with Italian hospitality
In Italy, eating together is what connects us with family members and friends.
Roberto Guiati on Italian hospitality
Like Malaysians, Italians bond over sharing food and eating together. As such, the restaurant serves relatively big portions meant for sharing and has a wide menu other than pizzas, such as handmade pastas, paninis, and meat-based mains.
The outdoor alfresco dining is indeed quite comfortable, even with Malaysia’s hot weather. The large tables and soft seating fits larger groups quite well, even while observing SOPs, making it ideal for the “Italian-style” gathering of friends and family.
Additionally, their selection of alcohol pairs well with the food, featuring specialty wines from the Tuscan countryside as well as refreshing cocktails mixed with local flavours.
All in all, Roberto’s seems like a promising addition to Bangsar’s gourmet food scene.
