He dropped out of school in January last year; he was 15.
On the night of 18 July, he was in a hotel car park in Johor Bahru, behind the wheel of his grandfather’s car, with 60 kilograms of methamphetamine — ice, named for the way it looks: clear, crystalline, cold — in the boot, packed into 50 packets of Guanyin Wang tea bags.

Johor police stopped the Perodua Bezza at around 9 PM, searched the car, and found the drugs.
They arrested the boy on the spot, along with three other men at the scene.
A search of the hotel yielded three more.
Eight men in total, aged 16 to 78 and including the ringleader, all linked to the same syndicate.
The Boy Was Using It Too
Johor police chief Commissioner Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad told reporters at a press conference today (22 July) that the syndicate had been active since May, using vehicles as mobile drug warehouses before distributing to the local market.
Total street value of the seizure: RM3.04 million.
Two vehicles and RM4,162 worth of gold jewellery were also confiscated.
Three of the eight suspects tested positive for drugs in urine screenings — including the 16-year-old.
The remaining five had prior criminal records.
All eight have been remanded until Saturday (25 July).
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 — the provision that carries the death penalty.
His Grandfather Gave Him the Keys
On the boy specifically, Ab Rahman said the investigation showed his parents and elders had been neglectful, and that the lack of supervision had led him down this path.
He urged Johor parents to pay closer attention to their children.
There is also the matter of the car.
It was registered in the boy’s grandfather’s name.
The grandfather, police noted, had allowed the unlicensed teenager to use it freely.
The boy had no school, no driving licence and no one asking where he was going at 9 at night.
He had his grandfather’s car and a syndicate that knew exactly what to do with both.
