[Watch] Malaysian TikToker Tells Muslims They Can’t Eat At Singapore McDonald’s, Which Has Been Halal Since 1992
A Malaysian content creator went viral for all the wrong reasons after claiming Singapore McDonald’s serves pork — a fact that has not been true for 34 years.

Muiz Nazmi, a Malaysian content creator posting under @muiznazmi, uploaded a TikTok video describing Malaysia as “the best country” for Muslim travellers seeking halal food.
His argument: go abroad, and you lose access to fast food. Go to Singapore specifically, he said, and “confirm tak boleh makan dia punya fast food — their McDonald’s even has pork and all that.”
The video was recorded months earlier.
It resurfaced last week after being reposted on the Complaint Singapore Facebook page, where it found a considerably less sympathetic audience.
The problem was immediate and total.
All McDonald’s outlets in Singapore have carried halal certification from the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) since 1992.
Not recently, not after some policy change, but since 1992 — when Muiz Nazmi was, in all likelihood, not yet born.
He Was Trying to Compliment Malaysia, But Singapore Got in the Way
Singaporeans and Malaysians descended in force.
The more charitable called it a katak di bawah tempurung moment — the Malay idiom for a frog living under a coconut shell, unaware of the world outside.
The less charitable did the math on 1992 and left it there.
What made the clip spread was not malice.
Muiz was not trying to mislead anyone; he was trying to say Malaysia is great — and, without checking, reached for the nearest available contrast.
Singapore felt like a reasonable placeholder for “abroad, therefore less halal-friendly.”
It was a comfortable assumption, but it was also 34 years out of date.

Sorry Doesn’t Travel as Far as the Video Did
He deleted the original video and posted apologies on both TikTok and Facebook, addressing Singaporeans directly.
I’m truly sorry, and I really didn’t mean to. I will do my research before making a video.
He asked people to stop reuploading the clip; they did not.
His apology was genuine, and the correction, as is now standard, will never travel as far as the original.
The video lives on in screenshots, reposts, and comment threads — a small, durable monument to the cost of skipping one Google search.
McDonald’s Singapore, for its part, has said nothing.
It did not need to; 1992 speaks for itself.
