MCA Youth Sec-Gen: “I Told Johor No PAS”, Then BN Did It Anyway

MCA Youth chief Saw Yee Fung has publicly questioned Barisan Nasional’s (BN) cooperation with PAS in Negeri Sembilan, saying it contradicts what she told voters in Johor just a week earlier.
In a Facebook post written in Mandarin, Saw said she had repeatedly told Johor voters that “we are not cooperating with PAS,” and had urged them to vote BN to “stop the green wave.”
She also pointed out that it was DAP, not BN, that had allied with PAS in the past, and that it was Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who invited PAS to join the unity government.
A week later in Negeri Sembilan, she said, BN leaders stood on stage during a candidate announcement and said: “We have an understanding with a friend” — a statement PAS leaders then confirmed as UMNO-PAS cooperation.
Her Questions For MCA Leadership
Saw asked whether MCA’s top leadership — including the party’s president-general and its presidential council — had signed off on the arrangement, and what exactly the “consensus” with PAS entailed.
She questioned whether MCA had abandoned its long-held commitment to secularism and democracy, and asked whether the party had agreed to accept theocratic governance.
“Where is the bottom line? Where are the principles?” she wrote, questioning if the shift was driven by seat calculations, positions, or the logic that “the enemy of my enemy is my friend.”
She added that MCA has long criticised DAP for becoming what it once opposed after entering government — and asked whether MCA was now doing the same.

The Math Behind The Deal, And Why It Could Still Fall Apart
Her post comes as BN negotiates a seat-sharing arrangement with PAS ahead of the Negeri Sembilan state election.
UMNO deputy president and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the announcement of cooperation was expected soon.
BN deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan confirmed BN would enter the election with an “understanding” with a partner party.
Separately, BN confirmed it was in talks with PAS.
BN is giving up 11 seats to PAS-friendly territory in exchange for PAS not contesting the 14 seats BN currently holds.
Mathematically, the BN-PAS pact makes sense — combining their vote bases could flip several PH-held seats where BN and PN together already outnumber PH, based on GE15 data.
But the strategy risks falling apart in practice, since Bersatu’s decision to contest separately will still lead to three-cornered fights, and there’s no guarantee that PAS or UMNO voters will actually transfer their support to each other.
PAS Backing MCA On Alcohol Ban — A Preview Of The New Dynamic
The irony Saw raised isn’t hypothetical.
PAS recently publicly defended MCA’s right to criticise Negeri Sembilan’s alcohol restrictions in public recreational areas — a policy introduced by the PH-led state government under Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.
MCA vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng had called the ban a “backward step” that hurts tourism, particularly in Port Dickson.
The state government maintains that alcohol isn’t banned outright — it remains legal in restaurants, pubs, hotels, and private properties — and that the restriction targets public intoxication and littering in family areas.
PAS’s response was telling: as long as MCA doesn’t criticise Islam or PAS directly, the party said it would respect MCA’s position — a notable shift for a party built on stricter religious enforcement, now defending a non-Muslim party’s push for looser alcohol rules.
