Hollywood doesn’t come to George Town very often.
When it does, it doesn’t usually arrive standing next to a Perodua Kelisa.
Mark Wahlberg touched down in Penang on 10 July to begin filming scenes for The Big Fix, an upcoming Netflix action-thriller.
Penang Island City Council Mayor Datuk A. Rajendran confirmed the shoot runs for approximately two weeks, wrapping around late July before production returns to its primary base in Sydney, Australia.
Local coordination is handled by Biscuit Films, a local production support company in Malaysia, known for supporting numerous high-profile productions.
The film centres on an Interpol officer investigating a massive global match-fixing syndicate with ties to FIFA — a premise that, given Southeast Asia’s well-documented history of football corruption, carries a certain weight.
Co-starring alongside Wahlberg are British actor Riz Ahmed, Singaporean actor Chin Han, Indian actor Vipin Sharma, and US-based Malaysian actress Nuha Jes Izman.
Two Weeks, Six Locations
Filming locations confirmed across Penang include Lebuh Melayu and surrounding streets in George Town, Lorong Kulit, City Stadium, Batu Kawan Stadium, and Macallum Field.
Temporary road closures are in effect across several sites.
Wahlberg, who has been publicly Catholic throughout his career, also posted on Instagram alongside the parish priest of the Church of Divine Mercy — wishing followers a happy Sunday from Malaysia.
It was not a PR stunt; it was just him.
The Kelisa photo, meanwhile, has already done what viral photos do.
Malaysia has had no shortage of Hollywood moments lately — Henry Golding made headlines here in April.
But nobody showed up next to a Kelisa.
