Barisan Nasional (BN) and UMNO president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi arrived at UMNO’s Johor headquarters in Johor Bahru at around 5.16 pm today (Jul 11), ahead of the Johor state election results.
His early appearance caught reporters by surprise.
Asked if he was confident of a good outcome, the Deputy Prime Minister gave a brief reply: “Grateful.”
He went on to invite reporters to join him for tea and posed for photos with members of the media.
Later, at their request, he cooked fried noodles and served them on-site.
BN is contesting all 56 state seats, and within the coalition, UMNO is contesting 37 seats.
Turnout Climbs Toward 70%
Voter turnout figures released through the day suggested a notably energised electorate.
By 4 pm, turnout had already reached 63 per cent, tracking closely with the Election Commission’s (EC) earlier prediction that the final figure could hit or exceed 70 per cent by the time polls closed at 6 pm.
In a widely shared social media analysis, one observer argued that such a high turnout points to strong voter motivation.
However, the question remains as to what exactly was driving it, suggesting it could stem either from a desire to see the opposition lose or from disillusioned supporters seeking to punish their own side.
