10,000 Turn Up For Putrajaya Run, Raising Funds For Cancer Patients
Ten thousand participants turned out at Anjung Floria, Putrajaya, for the ninth edition of the Skechers Friendship Walk and Run — the event’s biggest year yet — raising RM10,000 for cancer patients while debuting a 21KM Half Marathon for the first time.

A record 10,000 participants gathered at Anjung Floria, Putrajaya, recently for the ninth edition of the Skechers Friendship Walk and Run 2026 — the event’s largest turnout yet, marking a 25% increase from the previous year.
The annual community run, organised by footwear brand Skechers, raised RM10,000 for MAKNA, the National Cancer Council of Malaysia, to support underprivileged cancer patients and their families.
For many of the patients and families that MAKNA supports, the journey through cancer treatment is not only physically and emotionally demanding but also a significant financial burden, said Ravi Varman Arron, Assistant Head of Division (Project) at MAKNA.
This contribution will help us extend our reach — whether through subsidising treatment costs, providing welfare aid, or simply ensuring that patients have one less thing to worry about as they focus on recovery.
A New Distance, A Growing Field
This year’s event introduced a 21KM Half Marathon for the first time, joining the existing 10KM Competitive Individual Run and 5KM Leisure Walk — bringing the total to three categories designed to accommodate a wide range of fitness levels.
In the 21KM Half Marathon, Mohamad Nur Radzman won the men’s Open category with a time of 1:15:45, while Chew Jia Qi topped the women’s field in 1:30:42.
The 10KM men’s Open category was won by Prabudass Krishnan in 0:32:58, with Nurul Juliana Shakira leading the women’s field in 0:40:25.
Champions across both distances took home RM1,000 cash, a RM1,000 Skechers voucher, and prizes from event partners including Greens, Vichy Dercos, OSIM, and N8 Sports Nutrition.
First-place winners also received a one-year supply of meals from O’Brien’s Irish Sandwich Café.
Runners highly commended the organisation, noting that everything from start to finish was exceptionally smooth, neat, and top-notch.
Since it fell exactly on Father’s Day, many families turned up with strollers for the non-timed 5KM Leisure Walk, creating memorable bonding moments.
Beyond The Finish Line
The event closed with a grand lucky draw, with a lucky winner walking away with a year’s supply of Skechers footwear.
Seeing participation grow from 8,000 last year to 10,000 this year is a testament to the community that has rallied behind this event, said Zann Lee, Managing Director of Skechers Southeast Asia.
The introduction of the 21KM Half Marathon reflects our commitment to growing alongside our participants.
A portion of the day’s proceeds went directly to MAKNA, which provides financial assistance, welfare support, and cancer awareness programmes across Malaysia.

Fighting Cancer Beyond the Hospital
Founded in 1994, MAKNA is one of Malaysia’s most active cancer-focused NGOs, helping patients who cannot afford treatment costs access the care they need.
Through its Bursary Assistance Programme, MAKNA works directly with social workers at government hospitals to provide monthly allowances, medication, and medical equipment to financially struggling patients.
Beyond funding, the organisation runs halfway houses that offer free short-term accommodation for out-of-town patients and their caregivers travelling for treatment, and has partnered with UKM Specialist Centre (UKMMC) to establish a dedicated cancer centre.
A trained helpline, homecare nursing teams, and mobile screening units extend MAKNA’s reach into both rural and urban communities — catching cancers early and supporting patients who might otherwise fall through the cracks.
The organisation also funds research grants and scholarship programmes, keeping the fight against cancer moving forward on multiple fronts.
