A man is alive tonight because someone cut the power in time.

At 6:36 pm on Wednesday (1 July), a passenger at Hang Tuah LRT Station on the Ampang/Sri Petaling Line lost consciousness and fell from the platform onto the tracks below.

An auxiliary police officer stationed on the platform responded immediately.

Power to the rails was cut as a safety measure, and a rescue team pulled the man clear.

LRT tracks are live electrical infrastructure — the rails or overhead wires carry the current that powers every train.

Falling onto them isn’t just a fall; it’s contact with an active electrical system.

He Was On The Tracks for 16 Minutes

By 6:52 pm — 16 minutes after he fell — auxiliary police and rescue personnel successfully lifted the commuter to safety.

The man was then brought to the station’s emergency room for treatment, and train services had resumed.

Rapid KL confirmed the incident in a statement, saying the passenger had been “successfully removed from the track area safely” before receiving initial treatment on-site.

The speed of the response — and the decision to cut rail power — likely made the difference between a rescue and a fatality.

Rapid KL reminds commuters to wait behind the yellow safety line at all times, and to approach station staff or auxiliary police immediately if they feel unwell — before boarding, not after.
