Transport Minister Offers Cash Donation To Klang Crash Widow; Suspect Earlier Charged With Murder

Loke’s visit came after suspect R Saktygaanapathy, 28, was charged with murder earlier that morning — news that moved Nor Nadia to tears outside court, though she said she was relieved, declaring “a life for a life,” as her lawyer pursues up to RM1 million in compensation.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke on Wednesday (1 April) visited the widow of a motorcyclist killed by an allegedly drunk and drug-impaired driver in Klang, offering a personal cash donation and words of condolence — hours before the suspect was charged with murder.

Loke visited Nor Nadia Abdul Majid, 32, accompanied by Road Transport Department director-general Datuk Edy Fazly.

In a Facebook post after the visit, he said no amount of money could replace the loss of a loved one.

“Especially for a wife who now has to continue life without her husband,” he wrote.

Charged With Murder

Earlier the same day, R Saktygaanapathy, 28, was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for the murder of Amirul Hafiz Omar, 33, at Jalan Raya Barat, Klang.

The charge carries the death penalty, or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years, with mandatory caning of not less than 12 strokes.

As murder cases can only be tried at the High Court, the case will be transferred there, where Saktygaanapathy will be asked to plead guilty or not guilty.

He pleaded guilty to a separate drug charge — administering Benzodiazepine and Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) into his body — under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a fine of up to RM5,000 or a maximum of two years imprisonment.

THC is the main psychoactive compound in cannabis that affects the brain’s receptors, leading to altered mood and perception.

Saktygaanapathy was unrepresented in court.

Relief, And A Claim To Follow

Nor Nadia wept outside the Klang Magistrate’s Court after proceedings, but said she was relieved by the murder charge.

I am grateful he has been charged, Alhamdulillah. I only have one thing to say — a life for a life. I feel relieved, the burden feels a little lighter. I am thankful.

Her lawyer, Mohd Faizi Che Abu, who attended as an observer, said the family was satisfied with the charge.

He added that the court’s permission to participate in the proceedings would help obtain verified facts ahead of a potential civil suit and insurance claim.

The lawyer plans to file a claim for up to RM1 million in compensation on behalf of his client.

The Crash

Amirul Hafiz was killed on Sunday morning in Klang.

Saktygaanapathy, allegedly speeding under the influence of alcohol and drugs, overtook several vehicles along Jalan Raya Barat before crossing into oncoming traffic and hitting Amirul’s motorcycle.

The impact threw Amirul Hafiz into the air before landing on a Perodua Myvi.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The warehouse worker had gone out to buy a mathematics book for his child.
