A heated argument at a Berapit toll plaza in Penang has escalated into a police case, with a 31-year-old businessman potentially facing an attempted murder charge after allegedly ramming his car into a doctor during a traffic dispute.

The incident occurred around 11:30 pm on Sunday (28 December), when an RFID barrier malfunction trapped vehicles, including a doctor’s car heading to Penang Sentral and a businessman’s Proton X50 behind it.

When the doctor stepped out to ask the businessman to reverse to exit the problematic lane, the businessman allegedly shouted and refused to cooperate.

Things quickly deteriorated when the businessman suddenly accelerated forward, striking the doctor as he directed his wife to reverse their car, then ramming their vehicle before speeding away.

A Threat That Turned Out To Be Anything But Empty

The doctor suffered injuries to his left arm, left ribs, and right foot, requiring hospital treatment, while his 31-year-old wife escaped unharmed but filed a police report immediately after the incident.

Dashcam footage captured the entire confrontation and quickly went viral on social media.

In the footage, the businessman was seen exiting his car, apparently retrieving something from the back seat, then shouting at the doctor to move.

The doctor can be heard calling the businessman “stupid” and asking him to reverse, while also accusing the man of being drunk and telling him not to cause trouble.

It ends dramatically with the businessman’s car striking the doctor, who then gets up and chases the fleeing vehicle while shouting that everything was recorded.

A Wake-up Call About Keeping Your Cool In Traffic

Both the businessman and his 25-year-old wife appeared in Bukit Mertajam Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday (30 December) wearing purple detention uniforms, but only the businessman was remanded for five days until 3 January to allow police to investigate attempted murder charges.

The court rejected the remand application for his wife, meaning she was released while her husband remains in custody facing serious criminal charges under Section 307 of the Penal Code.

This shows how a simple traffic argument can escalate – all the individual did was ask someone to back up at a broken toll booth, and now he could end up in jail for years.

For many Malaysians who’ve watched this viral video, it’s a wake-up call about keeping your cool in traffic – no matter how annoying things get, it’s just not worth it.

It also illustrates just how important those dashcam videos have become – without that footage, who knows what story we’d be hearing right now.
