A Chinese tourist in Malaysia has gone viral after a heated confrontation with a local Malaysian woman, though the incident has been clouded by misinformation circulating online.

A video making rounds on social media shows the tourist cursing and calling the people filming her “psycho” during what appears to be a tense argument.

While the captions claimed the tourist threatened to report the Malaysian woman to Zhongnanhai—the headquarters of China’s Communist Party (CCP) leadership—a review of the video shows no such statement was actually made.

People familiar with Chinese dialects noted that her Mandarin accent sounds like someone from Hong Kong or the Cantonese-speaking Guangdong region in southern China.

The confrontation allegedly started when the Malaysian woman accused the tourist of hitting her child and demanded an apology – the tourist denied the allegations and claimed she was being attacked by “crazy people.”

Someone who appeared to be the Malaysian woman’s friend said there’s CCTV footage of the tourist hitting the child, though this hasn’t been independently verified.

It’s worth noting that the viral clip only shows part of the confrontation, and readers should exercise caution before concluding, as the video doesn’t tell the complete story of what actually happened.

“The Chinese Version of a Karen”: Online Outrage Over Entitlement

Even without the Zhongnanhai claim, online reactions were swift, with many calling out what they perceived as entitled behaviour.

One person joked, “What’s a Karen called in China?” referring to the Western slang for entitled behaviour.

And this isn’t the first time either.

Back in August 2025, another Chinese tourist at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) violently pulled off an immigration officer’s tudung after being stopped for missing entry records.

She got arrested and jailed for assaulting the officer.

People were really upset because she disrespected the officer’s religious head covering.

A Pattern Emerges: From Airport Assaults to Night Market Intimidation

In another incident, volunteers from Tuidang Malaysia—who help Chinese nationals quit the CCP—reported being threatened and harassed by three men at the Taman Connaught night market in Cheras.

One of the men allegedly said “没有共产党就没有新中国” (no Communist Party, no new China)—a slogan from a famous CCP propaganda song—while demanding they leave.

Malaysia lifted visa requirements for Chinese visitors a while back to boost tourism, and while that has brought in more tourists, it has also led to some uncomfortable incidents.

Of course, it’s important not to stereotype—every nationality has good and bad people—but these recent cases have people talking about whether tourists understand they need to respect local laws and customs, not act as if their home country’s rules apply everywhere.
