Watching her three daughters drown in Port Dickson but unable to do anything, a 52-year-old mother hopes to wake up from the nightmare.
In an interview with The Star, K. Anchalay said she had happily gone on an outing with her three beautiful daughters.
However, it turned out that she would bring their bodies home with grief and sorrow.
The incident happened at 5:00 pm on 23 April when five members of the Anchalay family from Banting, Selangor, drove to Port Dickson for a picnic at the beach for the first time.
The drowning occurred at Pantai Cahaya.
The victims were identified as R. Kalaivani, 30, Dawige, 29 and Sathiyadevi, 19.
Anchalay’s son, Veeran, 26, and one of her daughter’s fiance, J. Sathiswaran, 29, were rescued by the public and sent to Port Dickson Hospital for treatment.
A Recurring Nightmare
The mother recalled that the water suddenly became unstable when the five of them were swimming.
She said they were just sucked into the water, and as much as she tries to get that image out of her mind, she can’t.
At the time of the incident, Veeran and Sathiswaran were pulled out of the vortex in time and survived the catastrophe.
Anchalay, who works as a cleaner with a monthly salary of RM1,500, could not stay in the house she shared with her daughters.
Every room and corner in the house would make her think of them.
Anchalay wants to move out, but according to custom, she must stay there to perform prayers until the death anniversary.
According to authorities, the three bodies were found about 50 meters from the beach.
At the time of the incident, the water was at high tide and a bit rough.
The area in question was also prohibited for people to swim.
