Former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s year keeps getting more interesting.

With all eyes on him, after former Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s (Bersatu) information chief Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan was charged with soliciting bribes, it seems that the 8th prime minister of Malaysia keeps running into one hiccup after another.

In the wake of investigative proceedings against Wan Saiful, Muhyiddin also received a bombshell about himself.

A news portal claimed that he was detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) while playing golf – one of his favourite pastimes.

Muhyiddin’s press secretary, Hafiz Abdul Halim denied the report which was published in Harapan Daily.

The news portal had since rescinded the news article.

Hafiz was quoted by FMT as saying that it is not true and his boss was not arrested.

His boss had also denied the matter on social media.

However, Muhyiddin did acknowledge he was called to testify at MACC headquarters in Putrajaya over the Jana Wibawa scandal.

Harapan Daily in its report quoted sources claiming that Muhyiddin was arrested while playing golf at a golf club around Selangor.

At the same time, the report states that Muhyiddin will be charged in court today (9 March).

Last month, the MACC had frozen Bersatu’s account under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.

Besides Wan Saiful, other Bersatu leaders including its Segambut deputy chief Adam Radlan Adam Muhammad have been charged in court in relation to the case.

It’s important to note that corruption allegations should be investigated and proven through legal means, rather than based on speculation or rumours.

Meanwhile, Muhyiddin’s supporters pray for his safety and hope he will be treated fairly.

At the time of writing, a chaotic scene had also ensued outside the MACC office as his supporters gathered to show their support.

Malaysians will just have to wait and see how this one goes.
