She once soared the skies as a flight attendant but today she finds satisfaction on solid ground, handling chickens.

Nurhafaniza Yusuf is a former stewardess who worked for almost 13 years with Malaysia Airlines (MAS).

When contacted by mStar, Nurhafaniza Yusuf, better known as Niza, admitted that her life seemed to be at the end of the road when she was dismissed from the national airline.

Niza and 6,000 other MAS staff received a similar fate in 2016 following the airline’s restructuring plan.

Nevertheless, Niza is enthusiastic and dares to venture into her mother’s legacy business: selling processed chicken.

Niza said she believed that everything that happens must have a meaning; at the time of the incident, her mother was ill and had a mild stroke.

My mum has been selling processed chicken for over 30 years at Pasar Siti Khadijah, Kelantan. After I was dismissed from MAS, I took over her business. I used to worry about who would take over the business when she could no longer do it because I have three siblings, and they all have their careers.

Work Etiquette Is Timeless

The nostalgia of working in the clouds remains firmly in Niza’s memory.

As a flight attendant, she met many significant people (VIPs) and artists.

Honestly, I can say that there are many lessons that I learned when I was a flight attendant. Moreover, this knowledge is still useful even though I have ‘washed my hands’ and am now in the outside world. For example, we have character, manners, manners and conversation. All these we can learn by ourselves during our service as flight attendants.

Until now, she still applies these things in her business at the market.

How to talk to customers, eye contact, body language and neat appearance.

According to Niza, light makeup and lipstick remain essential, although her market responsibilities are often menial and uncomfortable.

Niza now sells processed chicken at Pasar Siti Khadijah in Kota Bharu.

This thing (makeup) has become a part of me as a former flight attendant, I will always make sure I am presentable. Not only for others but so that we value ourselves more.

The ‘migration’ of her life from a flight attendant to a chicken seller received a good reaction from those around her.

She said her friends and family members understood that life must go on.

Even before this, they have often seen her near the market; her husband is always there to help her.

Flight Attendant Benefits

Niza who is a mother of four children had the opportunity to travel all over the world during her career as a flight attendant.

It opened her eyes and broadened her experience.

She had time to share the advantages of being a flight attendant, including her travels worldwide that can open her eyes and broadened her experience.

I have been to most of the countries that the MAS route services, such as London, Amsterdam, Paris, Zurich, Buenos Aires and Cape Town.

Every time a flight attendant goes to any destination, especially overseas, they will be given at least 24 hours of rest time in that country before starting the flight back home.

Usually, the rest time will be more than 24 hours, maybe two days like that.

Niza told those out there not to give up even though life may seem difficult.

Those unemployed or laid off and do not know how to start again do not need any capital to restart.

What we need as capital is our actions, which is the most important thing. Even social media platforms are always available for us to start a business, for example, TikTok Shop.
