8 Remains Recovered, 60 Rescued So Far In Batang Kali Landslide

It is estimated that as many as 100 people were at a camping site near the Father Organic Farm in Batang Kali early this morning, where a landslide occurred.

The incident happened near the road connecting Batang Kali with Genting Highlands.

According to Bernama, eight people are confirmed dead, while 60 have been rescued as of 9.15 am.

The head of the Malaysia Fire and Rescue Service (JBPM) in Selangor, Datuk Norazam Khamis, said his party received a distress call regarding the incident at 2.24 am.

Berita Harian quoted him as saying that a team of 20 firefighters from stations in Kuala Kubu Bharu, Rawang and Genting Highlands were dispatched to the scene of the incident.

Based on initial reports, a landslide that occurred on the side of the road near Father Organic Farm hit a camping site. The height of the ruins is estimated to be 30 meters with a estimated collapse area of ​​one acre (0.4 hectares).

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and several ministers will visit the disaster site.

Astro Awani quoted Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil saying that the prime minister personally conveyed the matter when he contacted him this morning.

At the same time, Anwar had ordered all government departments involved in the SAR mission for landslide victims at the campsite to carry out the work meticulously and systematically.

In a statement, he said he was surprised by the incident.

I have received information from the Minister of Local Government Development, the Minister of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change and the Chief Minister of Selangor regarding the search and rescue mission.

As rescuers race against time, the Facebook page of Father Organic Farm had been flooded with prayers from concerned netizens.

According to locals, the area in Batang Kali near Gohtong Jaya has witnessed a mushrooming of campsites in recent years.

The area is popular given its cool weather and proximity to Genting Highlands.

It is unknown if these campsites, including basic and luxury ones, are all built according to regulations and meet all safety requirements.
