Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak cannot use a mobile phone and can only read the newspaper to know the world’s affairs.

Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Mohd Puad Zarkashi made the revelation in a Facebook post after meeting Najib at his trial.

He said the two had arrived early, so they talked for a long time in court.

Bossku was cheerful and welcoming, although he seemed a little downcast. He wasn’t allowed to use his cell phone.

Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Mohd Puad Zarkashi on the limitations faced by his former boss who now sits in jail.

He said Najib reads newspapers to learn about everything big and small happening in the outside world, but he can only get the newspapers a day later.

It means that all he knows is what happened a day or two ago.

Puad said he and Najib discussed the economy and current issues, including the cabinet list for the unity government.

He reminded Umno members to persevere, not to worry, and rise again. Seeing the spirit of Bossku, I am sure he will return one day to continue his noble struggle.

Malaysia’s Fallen Prime Minister

In August 2022, the Federal Court upheld the conviction and sentence of 12 years imprisonment and a fine of RM210 million faced by Najib in the case of embezzlement of RM42 million funds belonging to SRC International Sdn Bhd.

A panel of five judges led by Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat in a unanimous decision found that the defence presented by Najib was inconsistent and failed to raise reasonable doubt.

After his imprisonment, Najib remains active on social media, his accounts presumably run by his staff.

His continuous postings led to speculations that he has access to a handphone despite languishing in prison.

The perception was reinforced by alleged special treatment when receiving medical treatment not long after he was jailed.
