The elections may be a serious affair, but candidates can still make silly and unforced errors that cost them dearly.

Such is the case with the Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Manolan Mohamad in the Pahang State Legislative Assembly seat (DUN) of Kemayan.

Kemayan, alongside Triang and Guai, are state seats under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri’s Parliament constituency of Bera.

His nomination paper was rejected by the Election Commission (SPR).

It is understood that Manolan brought his old identification card to the nomination centre.

The SPR requires that candidates who wish to compete for the seat of DUN need to stay in the respective state.

The actual address (according to the new IC) is in Kemayan, but the IC he brought along shows an address outside Pahang.

Berita Harian quoted SPR Pahang director Datuk Zamree Hamli saying that Manolan’s address on the identification card was in Shah Alam.

Third Time Unlucky

Manolan, an Orang Asli, contested in the Kemayan state assembly twice in 2013 and 2018, respectively.

He lost to Umno candidate Fadil Osman with a majority of 4,618 votes in the 2018 general election.

Following the rejection, the Kemayan State Assembly in the Bera Parliament is now a one-on-one clash.

Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Khaizulnizam Mohamad Zuldin takes on Shapuan Hussin from Perikatan Nasional (PN).
