The Road Transport Department (JPJ) is perhaps the best government agency in terms of ‘profit margin’.

The reason is because some people are determined on getting the licence plate of their dreams at all cost.

JPJ collected RM286 million through its online vehicle registration bidding system, JPJeBid, in less than 10 months.

Its Chief Director, Datuk Zailani Hashim, said there were 124 bidding throughout the country, with an average of RM2.3 million for each bid.

Once the number is up for bidding, the public can bid without the need to attend JPJ offices and fill out forms.

In addition, they do not need to make bank drafts because payments can be done online using e-wallets, debit cards and so on.

For example, if a bidder in Johor wants to bid on a number in Pulau Pinang, there is no problem.

Anyone can bid on the number they are interested in regardless of location.

Truly, number plate bidding is so lucrative that even universities are joining the bandwagon.

Service For The Rakyat

Meanwhile, on the convenience of the drive through counter, Zailani said that JPJ offers four types of services, namely:

  • The renewal of the Motor Vehicle License (LKM).
  • The renewal of the Malaysian Driving License (LMM).
  • The exchange of the Experimental Driving License (PDL).
  • Competent Driving License (CDL).
  • Summons payment.

As an example, Penang JPJ receives approximately 3,000 customer visits every day throughout the period of operation at 53 counters, including counters at Urban Transformation Centers (UTC) across the country.

In the near future, JPJ plans to launch drive-through counters in Perak, Kelantan, Terengganu and Negeri Sembilan.
