Transport Minister Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong has been accused by netizens that he was holidaying during a working trip.
The problem started when a photo showing him meeting foreign delegates in Bali, Indonesia,
The foreign delegates had notes and papers, while Wee and his entourage had nothing on their desk except a mobile phone and a few pieces of paper.
The photo was accompanied by a caption saying that Wee is having a good time holidaying using taxpayer’s money.
Wee, also the president of MCA, explained that he held a meeting with representatives of the Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport (DG MOVE).
What the photo does not show is that there were 44 bilateral meetings and dozens of briefings and conversations before and during ICAO Assembly from 25 Sept to 4 Oct, 2022 in Canada.
Transport Minister Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong explaining his side of the story.
He said the Malaysian entourage already knows many of the subjects discussed because they have done much preparation.
Wee added that if they are still unfamiliar with the subjects after all these, they’ll just be as incompetent as the leaders of Pakatan Harapan.
The subjects include the ASEAN-EU Comprehensive Air Transport Agreement (AE-CATA, signed on 17 Oct 17, 2022, in Bali, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) development, and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) agenda.
Why Do People See Civil Servants As Lazy
But why would people readily believe such lies?
We often hear from the public that civil servants or government-linked companies (GLCs) staff are lazy, unproductive, and sleeping on the job.
Malaysians also believe that civil servants always delay giving public services they must do.
Other constant verbal assaults include accusations that civil servants prefer to skip work for various reasons, playing games on their PCs and phones during work and having little motivation to improve their services.
Melayu malas = kakitangan kerajaan

jenis datang kerja jam 7.30, 8.30 keluar minum sampai jam 10, jam 11.30 keluar ambik anak, pukul 2.30 baru masuk after lunch hour, pastu jam 3.30 keluar untuk ngeteh pulak

You know why kakitangan kerajaan curi tulang, malas, buat kerja cincai, because most of them buat kerja bersungguh, tapi lagi separuh buat kerja bodoh, gaji dapat sama or yg malas tu dpt lebih. Then, kami yg muda ni jadi kuli. And yg dpt nama, seniors.

It doesn’t help that some high-ranking civil servants made stupid remarks that infuriated the public.

However, to paint all civil servants as bad is unfair and damages the morale of the hard-working majority, who deserve respect.
Many civil servants regularly work 15 or 16-hour days or even longer, particularly at the Covid-19 pandemic’s peak.
Many were burnt out and exhausted with keeping the government running during lockdowns, especially the frontliners.

The weakness of the government system is that it is difficult to get rid of people who do not perform.
Various methods and standard operating procedures (SOPs) must be followed before they can be sacked from the job.
Sometimes, politicians use civil servants as a target to deflect criticism from themselves.
Susah orang lain nak buang stereotaip kat orang Melayu sebab dia. Kadang kan kita duduk kejap rehat sebab penat bekerja tapi orang terus cop kita malas.
