[Watch] Setapak Senior Citizen Seals His House With Cement After Burning His Car

What do you do when you don’t want to leave the house?

An elderly man in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur, cemented the entrance to his house after setting fire to his car.

The bizarre incident happened in a residential area in Jalan Cengal Selatan, Taman Setapak, on Saturday (3 September).

The man’s neighbour noticed the incident and saw him burning his car at about 9.40 pm before calling the police.

Bad News Travels Fast

The incident also captured the imagination and curiosity of netizens.

A video uploaded by the TikTok user bigbossm_iqbal97 shows the public gathering in front of the house.

Also seen were fire and police vehicles parked on the side of the road.

At the time of writing, the viral footage has amassed 407,000 views.

Mental Illness

Utusan Malaysia quoted the police as saying that the suspect lives alone and is also a mental patient registered with Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL). 

Police denied the incident was due to foul play and took the suspect to the hospital for further treatment. 

Meanwhile, the Fire and Rescue Department said they received an emergency call from the police via the MERS 999 line at 9:45 pm.

They dispatched machinery and a team of nine firefighters to the scene.

When the fire brigade arrived at the scene at 9:58 pm, the police asked to help cut the padlocks.

The suspect has locked himself in by installing 20 padlocks.

Firefighters also demolished the cement wall built blocking the door.
