The director of the Malaysian Pineapple Industry Institute (LPNM) Central Region, Muhamad Yusni Ramelan, said it’s an effort to bring pineapple farming knowledge to visitors while generating public interest in the industry.

At Laman Nanas we provide a planting area of two acres (0.8 hectares), involving the cultivation of more than seven types of pineapple found in the country, including Josapine, MD2 and Yankee.

He said this year’s MAHA would also feature the latest innovations regarding planting pineapples at night (Pineapple Night Farming).

The method that uses solar power is an effort to transform LPNM by optimizing renewable energy sources.

In addition, Laman Nanas will also launch two new Varieties Lists, namely Cobek Pineapple (AC13) and Crystal Honey Pineapple (AC14).

The new breed can provide entrepreneurs with broader alternatives to choosing the type of pineapple to grow.

The innovation is also timely as it would cater to the increasing demand for fresh pineapple in Indonesia.

For the sale of Pineapple Cobek and Crystal Honey, at this time, it can reach the price of a field between RM3 to RM4 a kilo, and can reach up to RM6 a kilo depending on the quality of the fruit.

Among other activities are pineapple hunt, fruit weight contest, cooking competitions, sharing of the success of LPNM entrepreneurs and celebrity cooking demonstrations.

The earliest 1,000 visitors to Laman Nanas have the chance to receive a chicken and a pineapple.

MAHA 2022 is taking place from 4 to 14 August.
