As Malaysia reopen its borders this April, Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak) together with the Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) launched BEimpactful.

BEimpactful is a package for business events planners to revamp the meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) industry.

The package basically provides extended financial and in-kind incentives applicable for physical, hybrid, and homegrown national and international MICE events.

Sarawak Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah stated that BESarawak and MyCEB will continue providing assistance to MICE event planners in order to drive Malaysia’s and the state of Sarawak’s economic transformation and social development through business events.

Under Sarawak’s Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 which was launched in 2021, the business events sector was identified as an aspiration to empower communities and conserve heritage, culture and biodiversity and promote investment and development in all sectors.

The source of Sarawak’s strength comes from our communities, or tribes as we identify ourselves. The definition of tribe is beyond ethnic tribes, but the tribes that bind us together: sectors, industries, common interests. In the last couple of years, Sarawak has gone from strength to strength in positioning itself to align with international objectives and standards in measuring the intangible benefit of business events, known as legacy impact.

There will be four major MICE events that are scheduled to take place in Sarawak in the next couple of years under this initiative:

  • 17th ASEAN Food Conference 2023 by the Malaysian Institute of Food Technology
  • Annual Scientific Congress of the Malaysian Society of Anaesthesiologists (MSA) and the College of Anaesthesiologists Malaysia by the College of Anaesthesiologists Malaysia under the Academy of Medicine Malaysia
  • 24th Asia-Australasian Conference of Radiological Technologies 2023 by the Malaysian Society of Radiographers
  • IEEE (I-triple-E) International Conference on Systems, Man and Cybernetics 2024 by the IEEE Systems, Man and Cybernetics (Malaysia) Society

These conferences are expected to attract an estimated 4,000 delegates to Sarawak.

Since the inception of BeSarawak in 2006, figures show that the state of Sarawak generated approximately RM3 billion in total economic impact under its secured events.
