The use of travel agent services for Mossy Forest Eco-Forest Park in Cameron Highlands is only a temporary measure.

The Pahang Forestry Department (JPNP) said the justification for the implementation is based on the several factors with an emphasis on safety.

Explaining the matter on Facebook, JPNP said there was a landslide incident at the entrance to Mount Brinchang VHF station which is also an access road to Mossy Forest.

The incident happened during the monsoon season in December 2021 which has caused the road to be dangerous to ordinary vehicles and unskilled drivers on the road.

JPNP explained that road conditions to TER Mossy Forest, which included landslide prone areas, are not suitable for normal vehicles.

For the safety and comfort of visitors, only rugged vehicles (4WD) can be used to get to Mossy Forest.

At the same time, parking at Mossy Forest is very limited.

For the purpose of traffic control in the area, JPNP recommends that visitors obtain the services of travel agents in the form of car pool.

JPNP has made an announcement to open all ecotourism areas with Permanent Forest Reserve status in Pahang from 7 March.

Why Travel Agents Are Compulsory

Following the opening, JPNP has informed that visitors who wish to go to Mossy Forest must obtain the services of a travel agent in the Cameron Highlands district.

The use of the services of travel agents will ensure the safety of visitors, especially when passing through high-risk areas (landslides and broken roads).

The requirement had drawn criticism from the public especially budget travellers and those who have their own 4×4 vehicles.
