Undoubtedly, the life of a food rider is not an easy one and is indeed full of everyday challenges.

For the sake of eking out a living, they have to send food to customers no matter if the weather is good or bad.

Many food delivery riders – often without medical benefits or health insurance – have been working extra hard since the Covid-19 outbreak began.

Due to the hectic nature of the work, many had been involved in road accidents, not least because of wet roads and potholes.

The list doesn’t end there.

Most of us would not know the risks that these unsung heroes face on a daily basis.

As it is, we only engage with food delivery riders when they show up at our doorsteps.

Recently, a FoodPanda rider was cheated of RM100 by a customer who disappeared after taking the food.

 Fraudulent Free Food

In the video, the rider was sitting by the roadside in front of a factory.

It is understood that he had come to deliver the food to a customer who works there.

However, the customer – who is only identified as ‘Nadia’ – disappeared after taking food without paying.

Netizens were outraged by the irresponsible act.

They also urged FoodPanda to fine-tune its payment systems to better protect the delivery riders.

Some even offered to pay for the victim out of compassion.

At the same time, other food delivery riders said they had also been scammed in the same manner.

No doubt, there are a handful of incidents which gave the rider community a bad name.

Nevertheless, it wouldn’t hurt to treat them with respect and dignity – you never know how much positivity you can spread.
