The Kedah State Consumers Association (Cake) expects an increase in the price of chicken-based food sold at the Ramadan bazaar next month.

Cake secretary Mohamad Yusrizal Yusoff said based on past experience, the increase in food prices will usually occur when the Ramadan or festive season arrives.

He was quoted by Sinar Harian as saying that the increase in chicken-based prices is anticipated due to high demand.

There is no denying that the price of chicken, which reached more than RM9 to RM11 per kilogram, has worried consumers even though the price has dropped back to around RM8.50 per kilogram recently.

However, there is still the possibility that prices will increase due to high demand during Ramadan.

Mohamad Yusrizal added that most of the bazaar sites in the state such as Jitra and Kota Setar were full.

The stalls are snapped up by traders who wanted to do cash in on Ramadan.

Many traders will be selling chicken-based food such as ayam percik and ayam golek. Hence the high demand and rising prices.
