Only 31 Hotels Have Halal Certification In Selangor, No Ramadan Buffet If No Cert

Only hotels with halal certification can use the term ‘Ramadan buffet’.

A large number of hotels in the state of Selangor have yet to obtain the Malaysian Halal Certification (SPHM).

According to state exco for Islamic Religious Affairs, Consumerism and Halal Industry, Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni, only 31 hotels in the state have obtained the halal certification.

He was quoted by Sinar Harian as saying that hotel operators which have yet to obtain halal certification are reminded not to use the term ‘Ramadan buffet’.

He said the term Ramadan buffet means halal and cannot be used arbitrarily as it is a form of trade description.

Doing so be against the Trade Description Act 2011 said Mohd Zawawi.

The use of the term Ramadan buffet among non-SPHM holders is a violation of the law that can lead to enforcement actions.

State exco Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni warning hotels not to use the term ‘Ramadan buffet’ arbitrarily.

Mohd Zawawi urged all hotels, traders and food industry operators which have yet to apply for the SPHM to do so immediately.

Otherwise, they will not be allowed to hold Ramadan buffets during the fasting month.
