A huge fire erupted in a petrochemical plant in Kompleks Perindustrian Tanjung Langsat, Pasir Gudang, Johor yesterday evening (24 February) causing a thick black mushroom-shaped smoke to form.
A spokesman from the Johor Fire and Rescue Department said that their side received an emergency call regarding the fire at Titan Himont Petrochemical Plant at 5.16 pm.
Around 38 rescuers from the Pasir Gudang, Larkin and Johor Jaya’s Fire Department were sent to the said location to put the fire out.
According to a report, the fire was successfully extinguished around 8.30 pm.
Earlier investigations report that the blaze was caused by two exploding cement tanks that caused further damage to the tanks.
Seri Alam Chief District Police, Superintendent Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said that the flames luckily did not claim the lives of anyone.
However, two workers were reported to suffer from burns on their hands while one victim suffered a broken left leg after trying to save his life by jumping out of the building. All of the victims were sent to Pasir Gudang Penawar Hospital to receive further care and treatment.
