Good news for parents!

Ever since the government mandated the use of a child restraint system (CRS) or car seat, many parents cannot afford to buy one despite wanting their child to be safe in the car.

In the 2022 Budget, the government has allocated RM30 million to be used a subsidy of up to 50% or a maximum of RM300 to purchase children’s car seats.

The government has also started a briefing session for children’s car seat sellers in conjunction with the CRS subsidy.

The briefing session is conducted by the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (Miros).

If the parents buy a car seat worth RM300 and below, they will get a 50% subsidy. For a car seat price that exceeds RM300, the maximum subsidy received is RM150.

Let’s find out more about this subsidy, eligibility requirements, and how to apply.

How Much Is The Child Carseat Subsidy?

Eligible families will receive a 50% deduction from the original CRS price or subsidy assistance of RM150.

This subsidy is a measure to encourage Malaysians, especially parents from the B40 group, to use CRS.

There have been many cases of accidents in which babies were thrown out of vehicles while the parents were safe.

The normal car seats are designed for adults only, which is why babies and children need to sit in a car seat.

CRS Subsidy Eligibility Requirements

The eligibility criteria for recipients of the CRS 2022 subsidy are:

  • Beneficiaries from the B40 household category
  • Aged 21 years and above
  • Have a child/adopted child/foster child aged 12 years and below
  • Citizens residing in Malaysia
  • Key data reference from BPR 2021 recipients based on information received by LHDN/e-Kasih ICU
  • 1 family is eligible to claim 1 CRS

Subsidy Rates

The amount of subsidy that will be given to eligible recipients is 50% of the original price (for CRS priced at RM300 and below); or a maximum subsidy of RM150 for CRS priced at RM301 and above.

How To Apply

To redeem the CRS 2022 purchase subsidy, applicants can visit the website www.mycrs.gov.my.

This website will be activated and open for applications starting 1 March 2022.

Status Check For Carseat Subsidy Eligibility

The eligibility status of the recipients of this subsidy will be announced in April 2022.

Applicants can check their eligibility/approval status through the website www.mycrs.gov.my.

Once you have a name and are eligible for the subsidy, you can go to selected stores approved by MIROS.

MIROS will approve stores with vendors trained as Child Occupant Safety Advisor (COSA).

This is to ensure that buyers are taught the correct way to install a car seat in a car.

Hopefully, this subsidy will be well received and the government will allocate more money after spending RM30 million.
