All Malaysians aged 60 years and above or full dose Sinovac recipients (18 years and above) must get their booster shot before 1 March, or else their yellow vaccination certificate will turn to white, according to Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

He said that they only have February to maintain fully vaccinated status but if they fail to get their boosters the certificate will change color to white, meaning full vaccination status is no more granted and restrictions will be made at certain entrances

I have also agreed with Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah that there is a reluctance from Sinovac recipients for example to get booster doses from Pfizer although we encourage them to get Pfizer and AstraZeneca.

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin

He mentioned that around 3.5 million Sinovac primary vaccine recipients have not received booster doses.

He said the effectiveness of the Sinovac vaccine is not as high as Pfizer, but the Health Ministry is still of the view that any booster is better than no booster.

So, while the government encourages Pfizer or AstraZeneca, they will issue an appointment for those who want Sinovac for their booster shot.

However, Khairy reiterated that the best protection is with Pfizer or Astrazeneca booster shots.

The analogy is that they go to the country in the winter, the Health Ministry recommends a coat but they don’t want to wear a coat, they want to wear a t-shirt. Ok lah, wearing a t-shirt is better than them not wearing anything. So we will give them a choice. Don’t want AstraZeneca and Pfizer, don’t worry, we still have a little stock of Sinovac that we will provide on a first come, first serve basis for those who want to get a booster shot.

He said that KKM will announce the registration methods soon.
