Playgrounds are exciting places for children to be outdoors and active, and to make friends.

At first glance, this playground at a public space in Kuala Terengganu looks like an irresistible fun playground for children.

But anyone who tried it out would get a nasty shock – should they knocked its concrete material.

The slide has horrified netizens who are concerned that kids might get bruises, scars, or even broken bones.

Facebook user Amer Narani posted several photos of the playground on social media.

She described the playground as the stupidest in 2022.

Lacking Common Sense

Playgrounds should be enjoyable places where children — and parents — don’t have to worry about safety issues presented by the place or the play equipment.

Netizens said the authorities should know that unsuitable playground equipment would place children in considerable jeopardy.

Plastic is Too Expensive?

Netizens also mocked the local authorities for their foolishness.

They pointed out that the children’s safety can be maximized through some simple and common-sense strategies.

What Makes a Safe Playground?

Hard surfaces, such as asphalt, concrete and blacktop, are never truly safe. Packed-earth and grass can also be unsafe because wear and weather can reduce their ability to soften a child’s fall.

The bottom line is you don’t want kids falling from tall playground equipment onto a hard surface like concrete or asphalt pavement.

A severe head injury can occur due to a fall from the equipment. Wear and weather can also create cracks in the surface, possibly causing a child to trip and fall.

A good playground should have surfaces that will absorb impacts and make walking, running, and jumping easier on your child.
