Popular comedian and actor Harith Iskander has come under fire after saying that people should be grateful to have a job.

In a tweet published recently, the Malaysian “Godfather of Stand-Up Comedy’ said he often hears people complaining about their work.

Whenever I hear a younger person complain about “not liking” where they work I would say “at least you’re not fishing in a storm drain just to earn a living. Be grateful. Experience life. Learn from others. Most of you have nothing to really complain about. I am blessed.

Comedian and actor Harith Iskander telling people to count their blessings.

Through the tweet, he uploaded a picture showing two elderly individuals working in a huge drain.

Harith is of the opinion that young people have no right to complain about their work if compared to what the elderly individuals had to do for a living.

Netizens Pour Scorn On Harith

Looking at the comments section of the tweet, many netizens expressed their dissatisfaction with his words.

They said that the rich (Harith is one of the successful local comedians) should not simply judge those who are less fortunate and with low incomes.

Rather than blaming the people for not being grateful, he should reflect and be ashamed, said netizens.

Some accused Harith of making assumptions and drawing conclusions from random everyday events.

Not Taking It Lying Down

However, not wanting to lose out on the criticism leveled by netizens for himself, Harith also responded to the comments.

In fact, he made another tweet to say that he remain steadfast with his opinions and would ignore the criticism received from netizens.

It’s not the first time he’s attracted attention for his remarks on social media.
