Chief of Defence Force Gen Tan Sri Affendi Buang stressed that the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) placed the safety of the people – especially flood victims – as a top priority.

In a statement issued today (21 December), he said ATM’s goal is to ensure that any efforts involving the management of flood disasters can be coordinated in an organized and effective manner.

This is not the time for any party to lay the blame so as to disrupt and jeopardize any rescue efforts as well as evacuate those affected by this disaster.

There Is Great Strength In Togetherness

He said what is important here is close cooperation with each other by placing the interests of the safety of the victims as a top priority.

Any effort undertaken is based on the whole-of-government approach (joint activities performed by diverse government branches to provide a common solution to particular problems).

By doing so, it will ensure that each agency involved, coordinated by National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), can be mobilized jointly and effectively.

Any shortcomings in the aspect of flood management are the joint responsibility of each agency, in finding solutions to improve the operations implemented and in the future.

The duties include rescuing victims affected by floods and efforts to evacuate them to safe areas.

At the same time, the flood victims involved are also expected to give full cooperation to the security forces for the smooth operation and well-being and safety of all.
