While consumer prices have been rising, the price of something else is coming down.

In conjunction with the “100 Aspiration Days of the Malaysia Family”, the police is offering huge discounts on unpaid summons.

The 100 Aspiration Days programme is a government initiative led by the Prime Minister’s Department to showcase the achievements of the current government after 100 days in power.

Road users in the Federal Territory and Putrajaya can enjoy up to 80% discount, while those in other states will get a discount of 70%.

Additionally, not all summons are eligible for discounts, such as summonses currently under trial and major offences committed this year.

Summons on offences involving heavy vehicles and exhaust modifications are also not entitled to the discount.

It is not sure why those in Federal Territory and Putrajaya are getting that extra 10% off.

There Is Always A Catch

Payment can only be made at the payment counter in the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) from 9 to 12 December.

The operating time is from 9.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m.

The discount applies only to summons paid at the above location at the time and dates stated, subject to terms and conditions.

It is also unsure why the police would insist on only that one location to pay the compounds.

At the same time, the public is reminded to adhere to Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs).

The SOPs include wearing a face mask, practising physical distancing and usage of sanitizer.

Just About Everybody Loves a Bargain

This is not the first time that the authorities are giving discounts for unpaid summons.

Every time there are offer discounts for summonses, the queue is very long.

With or without SOP, it is baffling that this time, the police would make so many people gather at one location.

More often than not, there will be insufficient parking space, not to mention Malaysians’ tendency to pay their summons at the 11th hour.

Perhaps the police can consider utilizing the computers in every police station to process the summons.

The short duration of the discount – only five days – also leaves much to be desired.

A longer period would have reduced the chances of a huge crowd rushing to pay the summons.

Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Let’s make life easier for the people.
