It happened on the morning of Sunday, 24 October. At 9:30 am, the teenager was found having trouble breathing and had lost consciousness thereafter.

He was taken to a private hospital for emergency treatment and was pronounced dead at 10:40 am.

State Health director Datuk Dr Ding Lay Ming said that the initial post-mortem examination carried out on the same day at 3:40 pm shows that the 15-year-old had Spontaneous Bronchospasm. His lungs constricted making it difficult for him to breathe.

Currently, all his tissue samples have been sent to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital forensic pathologist for further examination, according to Dr Ding.

The post-mortem report is incomplete because there are test results that have not been received

State Health director Datuk Dr Ding Lay Ming told Bernama.

On the day before he died, the boy received the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at the Gunung Rapat National Secondary School vaccination centre.

His first dose was uneventful. He had no allergic reactions to any vaccines or drugs and it is not known if he had any chronic illnesses.

However, he reported pain at the injection site after receiving the second vaccine jab, added Dr Ding.

It is prudent to remember that correlation does not imply causation.

Malaysia has begun vaccinating teenagers since September.

Currently, 74.8% of the Malaysian population has been fully vaccinated. That includes 65.5% of children between 12-17 years of age and 95.5% of adults.
