The government is looking to allow fully vaccinated foreign tourists from certain countries to come into Malaysia without having to undergo the two-week quarantine period, according to National Recovery Council Chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

He was quoted by Bernama saying that the government will implement a joint recognition programme for vaccine certificates which have been used in several other countries.

This is a positive development in the process of opening the country’s borders which I am sure will revive economic activities, especially the tourism sector, international conventions, trade and others, as well as facilitate the affairs of business visitors and social visitors.

Muhyiddin also said that he was briefed by Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin and was satisfied with the progress achieved, especially in terms of the decline in daily positive cases, the use of intensive care unit beds to treat Covid-19 patients and the high vaccination rate of the adult population .

The reopening of the country’s borders would allow Malaysians to go abroad without cumbersome rules, he said, while social visitors and foreign tourists could come to the country by complying with the conditions set.

When asked by the media on when the matter would be finalized, Muhyiddin said he was informed that the matter would be discussed and considered in a government meeting today.
