The government has set up a new Covid-19 statistics website – COVIDNOW – to show more granular data on the pandemic for public viewing, said Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

He said that the website will be accessible starting today at 6pm and it will be updated daily at 12 am.

Khairy also mentioned that the Ministry will also phase out the existing format for daily cases by next week to the new reporting format with more simplified breakdowns of active cases based on key indicators.

We don’t want our public healthcare capacity to be overwhelmed. It’s important that we give the actual data on the active cases on a daily basis, where they are, what category they are based on where they are located.

He mentioned that the website will have more stats such as the hospital data, bed capacity and breakdowns for deaths caused by Covid-19.

Khairy also added that the Ministry will be more accurate in reporting deaths Covid-19 such as showing the actual date of demise.

He said that the reason why there’s inconsistency in the numbers is due to the clinical procedures which have to be done to confirm the cause of death for each case.

We are fine tuning our reporting of daily cases. By the end of this month, we will have more accurate reporting for daily cases on the ground, including granular data.
