Another Malaysian athlete has a chance to compete for gold at the Tokyo Paralympic Games today as national swimmer Muhammad Nur Syaiful Zulkafli has qualified in the men’s S5 (physical impairment) 50 metre freestyle final.
The event is scheduled to take place at 6.29 am local time.
Bernama reported that the 26-year-old qualified after he finished third in the first heat with a time of 33.46 seconds and fifth overall in two qualifying heats.
The Sarawakian swimmer was quoted saying that he was very satisfied to qualify and would try to show a better performance by at least improving on his personal best of 33.20 seconds that he achieved in the London Paralympic Games in 2019.
I wanted to save energy for this evening, that’s why I was a bit behind in the beginning. God willing, I will do my best.
