The first national address by newly minted Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has caught the attention of Malaysians as he mentioned the nation has be united under the “Keluarga Malaysia” (Malaysian Family) banner to fight Covid-19.

In his inaugural public speech, he said that Malaysian Family approach sounds like an appropriate tagline because the phrase was more inclusive.

It crosses the boundaries of religion, race and ethnicity. Where, we are aware of the existence of a married family of various races and religions, but the values of family have bound them all. Therefore, the concept of the Malaysian Family is taken because for me the integrity of the country is tied to the values of perfect education in a family. We are a family regardless of religion, race and ethnicity. Each of you is like my own family, whether young or old. We are likened to complementing each other, like limbs that need each other.

Cue the Dom memes

Although it does sound like a catchy tagline, “Keluarga Malaysia” also reminded Malaysians of an infamous meme which actually went viral quite recently – the Fast and Furious “Family” memes.

Folks wonder if he’s actually being serious

Others were sceptical of the speech, pointing out the PM’s previous mishaps and wondering if he actually meant what he said.
