An Indonesian man has been identified as the index case for one the newest Covid-19 clusters in Sabah – Kluster Sawit Baiduri – on 6 August which has recorded 77 new cases so far.

It’s reported that the spread of the disease was traced back to a wedding ceremony which happened on August 6.

Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun was quoted by Utusan Borneo saying that the infection recorded in Lahad Datu involved the community in Mukim Felda Sahabat due to the index case – who is the father of the groom.

The index case is an Indonesian man, 47 years old who tested positive for COVID-19 on August 11 at the Tungku Health Clinic after suffering from symptoms since August 10.

Masidi said another 101 individuals were found to be negative on the first screening and the cause of the infection was still under investigation.

Preliminary investigations, however, found that there was a wedding ceremony on August 6 which is believed to be the cause of the spread of this epidemic. The index case is the father of the groom and all Covid-19 positive cases in this cluster have been referred to the Covid-19 Assessment Center (CAC) Lahad Datu and Lahad Datu Hospital for further treatment and isolation.
