Here’s what they have to say:

Ahmad Zahid claims that he doesn’t want to become PM

UMNO President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that the fall of the Perikatan Nasional government should be taken as a lesson and added that he doesn’t have the intention of becoming the next Prime Minister.

In a statement released online recently, the Bagan Datuk MP said that the party would instead pick suitable candidates to be presented to the Agong, adding that the party has vast experience in leading the country.

What happened must be set as an example and I call on all parties to look ahead by fully focusing on only one goal to together safeguard the well-being of the people and rebuild this beloved country.

Ahmad Zahid also suggested that a stable government be established for all that will focus only on tackling the Covid-19 pandemic and managing the people’s well-being.

To this end, he said, an effective Cabinet similar to a ‘War Cabinet’ that only focuses on the process of national recovery in the face of pandemics should be formed and dissolved once the conditions are right to hold elections again.

Anwar Ibrahim welcomes resignation

PKR President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim applauds the decision made by Mahiaddin, thanking the 8th Prime Minister for his efforts and saying that it’s the right thing to do.

He also released a statement online urging Malaysians to remain calm and pray that the country will get back on its feet soon.

Lim Guan Eng says it’s going to be difficult for the next person

Meanwhile, DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng said that the party commends the Prime Minister for resigning, saying that it’s the right Constitutional step to do so.

He also mentioned Mahiaddin tried hard but fell short in handling the triple crisis of Covid-19 pandemic, economic recession and political instability.

However, Lim added it will also be a tough job for the next person who will become Prime Minister, saying that the person will have to do a better job at dealing with the triple crisis, particularly to save lives and livelihoods badly affected by the surge of coronavirus infections and deaths.

Mat Sabu says lets unite under Pakatan

Amanah President Mohamad Sabu also released a statement saying that now Mahiaddin is no longer in office, the opposition parties must put their differences aside to band together in supporting Pakatan Harapan.

It is a priority for all of us at this time to work together to restore the health and economy of a very badly ravaged country. Democracy needs to be restored so that the views of all parties are taken into account, whether among members of parliament from the government or the opposition as well as other parties. The check and balance through Parliamentary institutions must be restored so that the newly formed government always performs its responsibilities to the best of its ability.
